Creating Opportunities for People With Special Needs
It is the goal of Independence Center, Inc., to provide effective habilitative services to all consumers admitted in to our program and to provide the "normalization principle", using the least restrictive environment, and to use community resources to encourage proactive intervention.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Independence Center Program is to provide an environment that is safe and nurturing, yet challenging based on each individual's needs. A multitude of perspectives are considered when programming for the individual focusing on their life experience and abilities. From these perspectives, long and short term goals are developed to promote independence and the fostering of relationships. By utilizing the following criteria in conjunction with Federal, State, and Local regulatory guidelines, the ICI program establishes a foundation from which to train.
Because we serve a concentration of highly vulnerable adults with multiple handicaps, safety and supervision are of particular importance. Vulnerability is assessed in terms of the environment in which the person will be participating. As areas of vulnerability are identified, action is taken to reduce the risk of injury/abuse through planned manipulation of the environment and staff/participant training. All employees are mandated by Federal, State, and Local guidelines to report any instances or suspected instances of abuse or neglect.
